The Faculty of Information and Computer Science
The Faculty of Information and Computer Science was opened at Yaroslavl Demidov State University in 1986 in connection with the creation in Yaroslavl of the Academic Centre for Fundamental Problems of Microelectronics and Computer Engineering. One of the main tasks of the faculty is preparing highly qualified specialists in the area of programming and information technologies.
The faculty prepares specialists in the following directions and specialities: Applied Mathematics and Information Science; Information Systems in Economics; Computers, Systems, Complexes and Networks.
The faculty contains the Department of Computing and Programming Systems, the Department of Discrete Analysis, the Department of Theoretical Information Science, the Department of Computer Networks, the Department of Information and Network Technologies. Highly qualified teachers having candidates and doctors’ degrees work at the faculty. The main directions of scientific research correspond with the type of specialists the faculty prepares and are successfully realized in the teaching process. The faculty works within the framework of a common theme “Information Systems Modelling and Analysis”. Both fundamental and applied researches are present at the faculty. The main directions of scientific work are mathematical and computer modelling of computing processes, research of neuron networks, their application to images recognition and analysis, building and analysis of computing algorithms, parallel programming.
Postgraduate students are taught: Telecommunication Systems and Computer Networks, Theory of Information Science, Mathematical Modelling, numerical methods and software programmes.
The faculty team annually takes prize places in student Olympiads in programming. Students of our faculty successfully take part in international competitions in programming, were several times in the semifinal and final of the world championship both teams and individuals. The students of the faculty take an active part in all sport and cultural events of the university and the faculty.
