The Faculty of Philology and Communication was opened at the P.G. Demidov Yaroslavl State University in 2011 on the basis of the Department of General and Applied Philology and Department of Foreign Languages for the realization of educational, scientific and elucidative activities in the sphere of philological and communicative sciences.
The faculty prepares bachelors of Applied Philology and masters in Philological Maintenance of Mass Communication. The training provides professional skills in creation, analysis, interpretation of texts of various types and genres, their proof-reading and editing, and in oral and written communication. Students get modern liberal academic education which enables them to find jobs in contemporary Russia.
Among the spheres of professional work of graduates of the faculty there are establishments of management and culture, mass media, advertizing agencies, departments of public relations, press-services, editorial, journalistic, publishing activities.
It is planned to start bachelor training in «Foreign Philology», providing fundamental knowledge of foreign languages, literature and culture of the countries of the basic language. The educational program is aimed for training in research and translational activities and for work in the sphere of intercultural communications.
The employees of the faculty have scientific interests in following spheres: Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, Theory of Communication, Russian Language, Classic Russian literature, Intercultural Communications, Literature of the Country of Studied Language, Modern Literary Process, Psycholinguistics, Theory of Translation, Forensic Linguistics, Media Literacy.
